We're recruiting a Laboratory Manager for a well-established manufacturer of vacuum pumps and pressure, temperature, measuring and control instrumentation.
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Calibration Technical team and laboratory.
The Laboratory Manager will plan the schedule and arrange appropriate staff and equipment to attend calibration visits.
The Laboratory Manager is expected to provide support to the service technicians and engineers, either by their availability for communication or by their on-site presence.
The Laboratory Manager supports the Quality & Environmental Manager in maintaining our
UKAS accreditation . The Laboratory Manager also carries out the lab-based calibrations for the business.
- Scope and Responsibilities
- Calibration Activities
- Ensure that all customers’ planned calibration is carried out on time and confirmed in advance.
- Ensure that unplanned calibration is carried out as soon as practicable, keeping the customer informed.
- Working with the Head of Service Planning, ensure that service and calibration visits are carried out concurrently wherever possible.
- Ensure that appropriate staff and equipment are sent to carry out planned calibration by checking records and with customers for any problems.
- Ensure that all staff are compliant with the requirements of the service/calibration schedule and Health and Safety requirements on site.
- The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the technical aspects of Calibration Engineers’ work.
- The Laboratory Manager is expected to perform calibration duties as necessary.
- Quality Assurance
- The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for technical aspects of the Integrated Management System as they relate to calibration activities.
- The Laboratory Manager is ultimately responsible for contract reviews relating to calibration aspects of jobs.
- The Laboratory Manager is responsible for investigation and resolution of technical aspects of Quality Alerts relating to calibration.
- The Laboratory Manager is responsible for ensuring that the calibration equipment is controlled, checked and analysed.
- The Laboratory Manager is responsible for company uncertainty budgets and calibration procedures content.
- The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the timely provision of quotations in response to customer requests (within one week).
- The Laboratory Manager will proactively seek to increase the level of sales orders in calibration.
Skills and Experience
- Experience of working within a UKAS calibration laboratory with supervisory or management level responsibility.
- Hands‑on technical calibration experience in low voltage electrical, temperature, pressure and relative humidity within a laboratory environment to a “technical signatory” status
- Hands‑on technical calibration experience of temperature / humidity mapping on site to a “technical signatory” status is also highly desirable.
- Experience of audit functions for both ISO9001 and 17025 is desirable.
Qualifications
The suitable candidate(s)
- Should have a technical qualification in electronics, controls or other engineering discipline.
- Has formal professional training certificates to demonstrate competency; in particular for uncertainty of measurement.
