The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for installing, commissioning, repairing, and maintaining ABB variable speed drives (VSDs) across customer sites within the water & wastewater industry.
This position includes participation in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota.

Key Responsibilities:
- Install and commission variable speed drives (VSDs), including mechanical mounting, power/control cabling and panel work.
- Configure drive parameters, run motor ID tests, complete application programming and carry out functional testing.
- Diagnose and repair faulty drives, identifying root causes and replacing components or full units.
- Perform planned maintenance: inspections, fan/capacitor changes, firmware updates.
- Carry out wiring modifications and update electrical schematics to reflect as‑built changes.
- Complete service reports, commissioning records and job documentation accurately.
- Participate in the call‑out rota for breakdowns and urgent customer needs.
- Lead on‑site engineers, allocate tasks, oversee quality and safety, and mentor junior staff.
- Proven experience installing, commissioning and maintaining variable speed drives (VSDs).
- Hands‑on experience with ABB drives (ACS380, ACS580, ACS880 or similar).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Competent with control panel wiring modifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
- NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds or equivalent electrical qualification.
- BS 7671 18th Edition.
- Experience with pumping systems, ideally within the UK water industry.
