Wynken is a passionate unisex childrenswear brand from London, but at home in the world. We are committed to creating fashionable, imaginative, high-quality and comfortable clothing for kids from 6 months to 16 years.
We are a small, dynamic team focused on creating fresh, playful collections each season, always with a sense of fun and individuality.
We are looking for a meticulous and skilled Children’s Wear Garment Technician to join our young and diverse team and help bring our designs from concept to reality.
Role Overview
The Garment Technician plays an important role in bringing Wynken’s designs to life, making sure each garment feels true to the original vision while being beautifully made, considered and ready for production.
Working closely with our Design, Pattern Cutting, Production and Supplier teams, you’ll help translate creative ideas into well-fitting, well-constructed garments. From the first sample through to production, you’ll bring a technical eye to fit, construction, finish and detail, helping the team find practical solutions and keeping the quality of the product at the heart of every decision.
You’ll also help guide the technical development process, making sure patterns, samples and production garments meet the agreed specifications and that clear, useful technical feedback is shared along the way.
As a childrenswear brand, safety and compliance are an important part of what we do. You’ll help ensure our garments meet the relevant international legal, safety and testing requirements, working with our teams and suppliers to make sure these considerations are built into the development process from the start.
Key Responsibilities
- Bring our designs to life
Work closely with the Design team to turn creative ideas into beautifully made, technically considered garments. Help shape construction, finishes and manufacturing techniques so that the final product feels true to the original vision while meeting the quality and performance we expect.
- Champion fit and product development
Partner with our Pattern Cutters to achieve the right fit, proportions, grading and overall shape. Lead fit sessions with a thoughtful and practical approach, spotting issues early and finding solutions that work for both the design and the garment.
- Protect the quality of every garment
Review samples and production garments with a keen eye for fit, measurements, construction, workmanship and finishing. Make sure what comes off the line reflects the approved design, specifications and the quality standards we want for Wynken.
- Build great relationships with Production and suppliers
Work closely with our Production teams and suppliers to bring technical requirements to life clearly and consistently. Be hands‑on when challenges come up, working collaboratively to troubleshoot issues and find simple, effective solutions.
- Keep the technical foundations strong
Develop and maintain clear, accurate technical specifications, measurement standards, construction details and fit requirements. Make sure childrenswear safety, legal and compliance requirements are considered throughout development, and coordinate the right testing for our international markets.
- Keep learning and making things better
Stay curious and up to date with childrenswear regulations, testing standards and technical developments across our key markets. Share knowledge and ideas, and continuously look for ways to improve our fit, construction, quality and technical ways of working.
Key Skills
- Technical expertise
Solid experience in garment technology, technical development or a similar role within childrenswear or fashion. A strong understanding of garment construction, pattern cutting, fit and manufacturing, with a good eye for quality, detail and workmanship.
- Fit, grading & specifications
Strong practical knowledge of childrenswear grading, including grade rules, size specifications and maintaining consistent fit and proportions across a full size range. Comfortable working with measurements, technical specifications and garment standards, and confident spotting when something isn’t quite right.
- Problem solving & practical thinking
A naturally curious and solutions-focused approach. You’re able to identify technical or production issues, understand what’s causing them and work collaboratively to find practical solutions that work for both the product and the business.
Confident communicating technical information in a clear and approachable way, whether working with Design, Pattern Cutting, Production or external suppliers. You enjoy working as part of a team and building positive, effective relationships with the people around you.
- Organisation & ownership
Able to manage multiple styles, priorities and development deadlines in a fast-moving environment. Organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of your work while keeping others informed along the way.
- Childrenswear knowledge
A good understanding of childrenswear safety, compliance and product testing requirements, with an interest in staying up to date as regulations and requirements evolve.
Professional Experience
- 2–5 years’ experience in garment technology, technical development, apparel production or a similar role within fashion, ideally with experience in childrenswear.
- Experience taking garments from initial design and sampling through to production, including fit sessions, technical feedback and working closely with Pattern Cutters, Designers and suppliers.
- Experience working with international suppliers and managing technical communication throughout the development process.
- Good understanding of garment construction, manufacturing, fabrics, trims and finishing, with experience across childrenswear testing, safety and compliance requirements.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office-based, with occasional travel to suppliers, manufacturers, production facilities and industry events.
- Some domestic and international travel may be required as part of product development and production.
- We offer a competitive salary, reflective of experience and the responsibilities of the role. Let us know what you would wish.
