Location: Essex / East London – c2c Network Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 per annum Contract: Permanent Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm Benefits: Train pass / travel support
The Role
We're looking for an experienced Rail Security Operations Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day security operation across the c2c network.
This is a key role within the operation, managing security officers and supervisors across a number of stations and locations throughout Essex and East London, including Basildon, Barking and the surrounding areas.
We're looking for someone who understands the reality of working within a busy rail environment — someone who can manage people, deal with issues quickly, maintain standards and build strong relationships with both the client and the teams on the ground.
You'll be the person making sure everything is running as it should.
That means keeping staffing levels on track, dealing with absence and cover, visiting sites, supporting officers and supervisors, managing incidents and making sure the client receives the level of service expected.
It's a role that suits someone who likes being hands-on and visible, rather than simply managing things from behind a desk.
What will you be responsible for?
- Managing the day-to-day security operation across the c2c network.
- Managing and supporting security officers and supervisors across multiple locations.
- Making sure sites are fully staffed and dealing with any absence or cover requirements.
- Managing rotas, attendance, performance and welfare.
- Carrying out regular visits across the network and maintaining a strong presence on site.
- Dealing with incidents, operational issues and escalations as they arise.
- Supporting investigations and ensuring incidents are properly reported and followed up.
- Working closely with the Transport Director and client contacts.
- Making sure officers understand their responsibilities and follow the correct procedures.
- Maintaining high standards of conduct, appearance, professionalism and customer service.
- Supporting training, briefings, toolbox talks and the ongoing development of the team.
- Building good working relationships with station teams, supervisors, officers and client stakeholders.
- Stepping in and taking ownership when something needs dealing with.
What we're looking for
The most important thing is relevant rail or transport security experience.
We're not looking for someone who has simply worked in a generic security management role.
You should have a good understanding of working within a live rail, train or public transport environment and ideally have experience managing security teams across multiple sites.
You should have
- Previous experience in an Operations Manager, Contract Manager, Area Manager, Security Manager or Senior Security position.
- Strong experience managing security officers and/or supervisors.
- Previous rail, transport, train network or public transport experience – essential.
- Experience managing staffing, rotas, attendance and performance.
- Good knowledge of operational procedures, compliance and incident management.
- Confidence dealing with clients, escalations and day-to-day operational challenges.
- Strong communication and people-management skills.
- A professional, approachable and practical management style.
- The ability and willingness to travel across the c2c network.
- A valid SIA licence is preferred and ideally required.
Why join?
This is a permanent opportunity to take ownership of a significant rail security operation, with the opportunity to work closely with senior management and make a real impact on the service being delivered across the network.
You'll have plenty of autonomy in the role, but you'll also have the support of an experienced management team around you.
If you're already working within rail or transport security and are looking for a role where you can take the lead operationally, we'd like to hear from you.
