Wycombe Swan’s Creative Learning department islooking for a freelance Lead Drama Facilitator to run the Wycombe Swan’s Youth Theatre in High Wycombe.

The Youth Theatre is a popular term-time programme, focussing on performance and the development of drama and other creative skills whilst helping participants to achieve goals, improve communication skills, boost confidence and self-esteem, and improve resilience.

We are keen to find a candidate with extensive facilitation experience and that embodies the values of inclusivity, creation of supportive environments, and the promotion of upskilling, wellbeing, and access to the arts.

About the Role

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Plan high-quality participatory drama workshops in line with agreed project aims and objectives
  • Facilitate sessions with young people, supporting participants to devise and perform their own work
  • Support young people to develop and apply their creative skills
  • Work collaboratively with the Support Drama Facilitator to develop their facilitation skills
  • Identify participant goals, and ensure they are supported to work towards these goals
  • Evaluate each term’s activities and implement actions in future work
  • Develop positive relationships with participants and their parents/guardians
  • Work with the Creative Learning Manager to identify areas for development for the program and for future programs at the theatre
  • Work with the Creative Learning Manager to help generate new opportunities for creative projects or workshops that can be facilitated by the Lead Drama Facilitator (additional paid opportunity)

The Youth Theatre runs on Mondays during term time and is split into two groups:

  • Juniors – age 7 to Year 7 (5.30pm-7pm)
  • Seniors – Year 8 to age 18 (7pm-9pm)

About You

We’re looking for someone who has the following essential skills:

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience of leading drama workshops and/or theatre projects
  • Proven ability to explore and facilitate a range of theatrical skills
  • Experience of working with young people
  • Can work collaboratively with young people and support young people with some additional needs
  • Demonstrative experience in working independently and as part of a team

Your Experience

Desirable skills and/or qualifications include:

  • Qualification in Drama, Performing Arts, Applied Theatre or equivalent
  • Safeguarding trained
  • First Aid trained
  • Enhanced DBS certificate
  • Paid and/or unpaid experience running youth arts workshops

Hours

You will need to be available on Monday evenings during the school term time (5.30pm-9pm).

Fee

You will only be paid for the hours that you work. We will pay you £30-£40 per hour, depending on experience.
