Our Outreach Volunteers help us reach people who are rough sleeping. Working alongside experienced support workers, you’ll be part of a small team taking support out into the community and making sure people know help is available when they need it most. Currently focused on Wycombe town centre with plans to expand.

You’ll be out on foot in the town centre, building trusting, respectful conversations with people who might otherwise find it difficult to access our help. You’ll help guide people towards our support centre and other services so they can access the right advice and support to move forward. At its heart, this role is about presence, patience, and kindness, meeting people where they are and helping them take the next step towards support.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Joining outreach walks around the town centre with support workers.
  • Speaking with people who are rough sleeping or in need of support.
  • Helping rebuild and maintain contact with people who have lost touch with services.
  • Sharing information about our support centre and encouraging people to come in for help.
  • Supporting signposting for people who are not known rough sleepers but still need advice or guidance.
  • Recording and passing on key information to the support team.

What the role is like:

This is a role where conversations really matter. You’ll be meeting people who may be going through difficult and uncertain times, so a calm, respectful and non‑judgmental approach is essential. We’re looking for volunteers who can offer warmth and dignity in every interaction, even when situations feel challenging. Emotional resilience, confidentiality, and the ability to work closely with a team are all important, and you’ll always be supported by experienced staff and a debrief process after sessions.

You don’t need experience:

No previous experience or specialist knowledge is needed. If you’re willing to learn, comfortable talking to people, and able to treat everyone with respect, you’ll be well supported in the role.

What we offer:

You’ll receive full induction and role‑specific training so you feel confident and supported. Wycombe Homeless Connection is an award‑winning charity with a small, experienced team working closely with dedicated volunteers who make this work possible.

When you’ll volunteer:
