About us and the role

Science Museum Group is here to inspire futures. We aim to grow visitor\’s \’science capital\’ and engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

As part of the Group, the National Railway Museum in York continues with the same mission of inspiring futures thanks to its iconic locomotives and an unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance. With the re-opening of Station Hall in September we are opening a new retail outlet and are looking for retail sales advisors to bring all our shops to life.

To help continue the experience our renowned galleries offer our diverse audiences, we are looking for Retail Sales Advisors to join us in the following shift patterns:

1 Fixed Term contract until March 2028 – 14 hours per week – Saturday (09:45-17:15) & Sunday (09:45-17:15)
2 Fixed Term contract until March 2028 – 14 hours per week – Monday (09:45-17:15) & Tuesday (09:45-17:15)
3 Fixed Term contract until March 2028 – 21 Hrs – Wednesday (09:45-17:15), Thursday (09:45-17:15) & Friday (09:45-17:15)
4 Permanent contract – 12 hours per week – Wednesday (11:00-16:30) & Thursday (09:45-17:15)

In this role, you will help increase sales and profit through effectively approaching and assisting customers in finding and purchasing merchandise. You will take responsibility for specific areas of the store&s operation, keeping visual merchandising and housekeeping at the highest standard.

While it\’s not essential, it would be beneficial if you also have experience in a bustling retail setting, visual merchandising, till work, or working in a visitor attraction or cultural heritage environment.
