About the Role

Do you have a passion for Engineering? Would you enjoy working in a cross-disciplinary way with practitioners from different disciplines? Have you organised courses and delivery for study programmes, apprentices and employers? Are you excited by the prospect of working with a friendly, skilled and highly-motivated teaching and technical team?

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced person to join the Engineering and Manufacturing Department at Printworks campus in the position of Deputy Head of Department. The successful candidate will lead on curriculum development and delivery, monitor and report on KPIs, whilst promoting high quality standards across our Engineering curriculum.

This is an exciting role to play a large part in developing the new Department of Engineering and Manufacturing. You will be pivotal in supporting the department in its journey to outstanding practices in all areas. The department is made up of 16+ year olds on study programmes, apprentices and adults on part time courses. We deliver qualifications that support the large manufacturing industry that we have in West Yorkshire, particularly the Leeds region.

In this role you will support the Head of Department strategically and also maintain operational quality within the team.

What You Will Do

  • Working closely with the Head of Engineering, you will need to be a committed and inspirational leader whilst having a clear focus on successful outcomes and aspirational targets.
  • As Deputy Head you will support the Head in strategic planning of the curriculum to meet the key priorities of the area, driving the department on its journey towards Outstanding.
  • You will oversee and manage the team to ensure that we have robust and good quality practices and Teaching & Assessment.
  • You will encourage and nurture a culture of excellence and develop a team with industry standard CPD.
  • A Quality Improvement skill set is essential to this role, ensuring that we meet all awarding body standards, and that we have strong processes in place to support our learners achieving their best.
  • You will be able to support and drive the department in all areas of the EIF to demonstrate sustainable and positive results.

About You

  • You will hold a Level 5 Teaching qualification, along with a Level 4 and above subject specialism in Engineering.
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge and recent delivery in the Further Education or school sector.
  • Extensive experience, knowledge and skills to enable delivery of a range of levels across the curriculum, which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
  • Ability to lead activities in the development and delivery of strategies to improve retention, achievement, success and attendance rates for groups of learners.
  • Experience of supervising/managing staff to ensure high performance.
