Palliative Care Nurse Job Overview

At Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust we provide a specialist palliative care and end‑of‑life care coordination hub. The service operates 24/7 providing care to patients in hospital and community.

Main Duties

  • You must be a registered nurse with the appropriate qualifications and experience.
  • The incumbent will coordinate a caseload of patients and staff on a shift, ensuring that all calls from palliative and end‑of‑life care patients are responded to in a timely manner.
  • The post includes rotation between the Palliative Care Hub and the Urgent Response Team, offers development opportunities, and requires a solid clinical knowledge of end‑of‑life care, including symptom control and community services.
  • Shift pattern involves 12‑hour rotations between day and night.

  • 1st Level Registered General Nurse (adults)
  • Qualification in palliative / end of life care or relevant experience

  • Experience of working within a community team or acute ward.
  • Experience of caring for patients at the end of life / palliative care needs.
