The predicted salary is between 37000 - 44000 £ per year.
We are looking to appoint one whole time Clinical Research Fellow to the General Surgery Department based at the Northern General Hospital with an additional Honorary Contract with the University of Sheffield. The appointee is expected to support two full‑day theatre sessions, two clinics and attend relevant MDTs each week as well as being on the ST3+ non‑elective rota block. The rest of the time will be spent on research projects and assisting with the Directorate’s recruitment to the wider research portfolio. The appointment is to commence in June 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months.
Qualifications
- Registered (or eligible to be registered) with the GMC with a licence to practise
- Basic Medical Degree
- MRCS
- Minimum of 3 years full‑time postgraduate training post Foundation Year 1 (or equivalent) in General and/or Vascular Surgery, or equivalent experience and competencies
- Minimum of 12 months UK NHS experience
- Experience at ST5+ level
Research
- Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate
- Identified a research project leading to MD or PhD
- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, e.g., degrees, prizes, awards, distinctions, grants, publications in peer‑review journals, presentations at regional and national level
Teaching and Training
- Evidence of contributing to the teaching and learning of others
Continuous Professional Development
- Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
- Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Personal Attributes
- Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values
- Excellent communication skills in English as required by GMC good medical practice (2013)
