Job overview

Location: Scarborough Hospital however one day a week will be spent at York. Travel to other Trust sites may be required.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing Senior Library Assistant to join our highly skilled and friendly team in the delivery and promotion of high-quality knowledge and library services.

You must be willing to work towards a funded qualification in Librarianship or Information Science. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in a career in librarianship to gain a professional qualification.

You will start as a Senior Library Assistant on a Band 4 but will be funded to complete the qualification and then gain an Assistant Librarian Band 5 post on completion of the qualification.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Digital and online skills are also essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Advising and assisting library users with basic literature searches using a range of resources.
  • Providing one to one training for library users on accessing electronic resources and databases.
  • Provide a Current Awareness Service for Trust staff
  • Assist and support library counter duties which will include dealing with queries, requesting books and articles and collecting statistics

DBS Checks

Please be aware that all new employees starting work with us will be charged for the cost of their DBS check if it is required for the role. The cost will be deducted from your salary either in 1 payment or over a six month period once you start employment. By applying you are agreeing to this undertaking. If you are successful you will be asked to confirm if you wish to pay in one amount or in instalments. The charges are currently £27.38 for a standard check and £55.38 for an enhanced check. The level of check will be determined by the post you are applying for.
