Consultant Neuroradiologist with Head and Neck interest in Salford

The Neuroradiology department comes under the Diagnostics and Pharmacy Group within the NCA, which covers four care organisations across different sites, with neuroradiology work based at Salford Care Organisation, where we provide tertiary neurosciences to the population of Greater Manchester. Salford Care Organisation is based 4 miles to the west of Manchester city centre, and is the largest of the four care organisations.

The successful candidate will be a diagnostic neuroradiologist, joining our current team of 19 neuroradiologists, which includes 5 interventional neuroradiologists. Head and Neck sub-specialty interest is desirable, with the ability to report cross-section head and neck studies, in addition to independently performing ultrasound lists. The successful candidate will be based at Salford Care Organisation but may be required to do limited sessions at another NCA site. The successful candidate will contribute to the general diagnostic neuroradiology work of the department, including on-call, currently set as a 1 in 10 rota.

Salford is part of the Manchester Centre of Clinical Neurosciences (MCCN) group, one of the busiest Neuroscience Units in the UK with outstanding clinical care given to patients across a range of conditions. It includes the specialties of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuropsychology, Stroke Medicine, and Spinal Surgery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his or her charge and for the proper functioning of the service and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department. The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external links to the Trust and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service. The post holder will be expected to contribute to some of the management tasks of the Department. The nature of this will be dependent on previous and current experience and interests. The post holder will supervise the work of junior colleagues and provide advice & support as necessary.

You must consult with management if you have any doubt as to the correct management of the records with which you work. You are accountable for the effective deployment of activities that ensure that your department/ward/clinical team is reducing hospital acquired infection. You will ensure that you and your staff comply with the Trust’s policies on infection, prevention and control.

Person specification

• Professional Registration: Full GMC registration with a valid license to practice, Registration on the GMC Specialist Register-CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT, Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners.
• Qualifications: Primary medical qualification (e.g. MBChB), FRCR or equivalent, To be formally recognised as Clinical Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards, To be formally recognised as Educational Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards.
• Knowledge, Training & Experience: Broad knowledge of neuroradiology, Evidence of dedicated subspecialty training or fellowship as appropriate, Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and keeps up-to-date with medical advances, Knowledge and appreciation of the core legal, ethical and political issues which govern medical practice, Evidence of participation in and experience of, clinical audit, Experience of working within an MDT, Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments, Experience of teaching and training.
