Location: Royal Preston Hospital / Chorley District General Hospital. Fixed term, 24 months, 37.5 hours per week. Salary: £21,809 in year one, £23,367 in year two. 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

Job Overview: An enthusiastic, driven individual with the flexibility and commitment to train and study to become a registered Pharmacy Technician. The role provides a wide range of medicines management duties, including ward level reconciliation, assessment of patient medicines, dispensing, and support across the Trust.

Main Duties:

  • Communicate relevant information and advice to pharmacy staff, nurses, patients and service users.
  • Support the department in delivering a safe and high‑quality service.
  • Contribute to effective teamwork within pharmacy.
  • Comply with legal and organisational requirements, including equality, diversity, and professional codes.
  • Complete BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practices for Pharmacy Technicians within 2 years.
  • Complete in‑house training and ensure the quality of service provision.
  • Ensure incidents and near misses are reported and recorded per Trust policy.
  • Contribute to the handling of complaints, error reports, and incident reports.
  • Proactively manage risk and maintain safety, adhering to health, safety, and security legislation.
  • Support the delivery of PET targets and achieve financial balance.

Person Specification:

Qualifications & Education:

  • Minimum 4 GCSE passes, including Maths, English Language, and Science (or equivalent).
  • Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Support Staff or equivalent.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Knowledge of the role of a hospital pharmacy technician.
  • Understanding of health & safety in dispensing and ward level work.
  • Experience in a customer‑facing role.
  • Knowledge of GDP guidelines and patient confidentiality procedures.
  • Experience dispensing in a hospital or community pharmacy.
  • Experience using pharmacy computer systems.
