We have an exciting opportunity for applications for a Band 6 within the Information and Support team at Nottingham Radiotherapy Centre. As a Band 6 Senior I&S Therapeutic Radiographer, you would be working alongside the site specialist Band 7 radiographers to provide information and support to patients and their carers before, during and after their course of radiotherapy. This may include delivering prehabilitation sessions, completing skin reaction assessments and liaising with the wider MDT and services to provide holistic support for our patients. The role will also include support of the brachytherapy and contact radiotherapy teams and the opportunity to maintain clinical competencies. As a large regional centre, this will include patients undergoing a variety of treatments including paediatric radiotherapy, image guided IMRT, SABR, SRS and total body electron and photon treatments.

In order to cover the service needs, the post-holder will need to be able to work flexible shifts over the working week with normal hours between 07.30 and 20.00.

Main duties of the job:

  • Working alongside and assisting the Band 7 I&S/Advanced Practice Radiographers across multiple tumour sites to provide information and support to all patients and their carers before, during and after a course of radiotherapy.
  • This includes providing telephone follow-ups for these patients as required and new patient information sessions.
  • To assist with the review of digital PROMS for the radiographer led on treatment review clinics.
  • To provide assessment of on treatment skin reactions to support the treatment radiographers and provide on-going support to the patient.
  • To deal with Information and Support queries both drop in and telephone.
  • To act as a liaison with the Hotel including management of meal vouchers.
  • Review and update written and digital information for patients within the appropriate review schedule.
  • Review and update the clinic documentation to support the treatment units in patient support.
  • Liaise where required with other healthcare professionals such as district nurses regarding ongoing patient care, ward staff and chemotherapy to ensure timely treatments and other AHP groups such as Dieticians and Physiotherapists as appropriate.

Person specification:

  • Training and Qualifications: HCPC registered therapeutic radiographer, Advanced communication training.
  • Experience: Minimum of 18 months post registration experience, Experience of using modern treatment machines, Experience of working within the NHS, Completion of preceptorship period with evidence.
  • Communication and relationship skills: Evidence of good verbal and written communication skills, Demonstrates awareness of adapting communication style for individual patient needs, Evidence of working with wider MDT.
  • Clinical Skills: Demonstrates knowledge of acute radiotherapy reactions and management.
