The successful candidate will join the existing team of 13 consultants (11.3 WTE) and 5 Advanced Nurse Practitioners in providing in- and out-patient Respiratory care. This 10 PA post - For suitable candidates, there may be the opportunity to train/participate in specialty clinical activity across MFT. We are expanding our research activity and the successful candidate will be encouraged to take an active research interest. Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration - MFT cannot support GMC Sponsorship for candidates who are offered permanent vacancies.
Main duties of the job:
- To provide clinical leadership in In-patient Medicine and supervising junior medical staff and multi-professional trainees as required.
- Contribute to education and will work towards accreditation as a Clinical and Educational Supervisor.
- Contribute to departmental audit and clinical governance.
- The consultant will be expected to provide cross-cover for annual/study leave and short-term sickness for other consultants in the department as agreed within the teams.
- Perform any other duties that are considered necessary for the efficient working of the service and which are mutually agreed to be relevant to the post as the pattern of service evolves.
- The appointee will participate in administrative and management roles of the department in conjunction with other consultants.
Person specification:
- Qualifications: GMC Registration, MRCP or equivalent, Entry in the GMC Specialist Register for GIM and Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) or CESR.
- Clinical Experience: Clinical skills in Internal Medicine equivalent to completion of Higher Speciality Training in General Internal Medicine, and Diabetes. Clinical skills in Diabetes equivalent to completion of Higher Speciality Training. Experience of dealing with “acute take” in the UK at consultant level. Intensive care unit experience.
- Management and Administration: Experience in clinical audit, Experience in patient safety initiatives, Experience in service improvement.
- Teaching Experience: Teaching experience to medical and non-medical staff.
- Other Attributes: Good organisational ability and a willingness to be flexible in accordance with the demands of team. Experience of working in a cross boundary clinical team with good communication and management skills. Presentational skills.
