The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is offering a fixed‑term (0.4 WTE) Practitioner Psychologist role (Band 7 – NHS AfC) for 8 months within the dermatology service at the Royal Free Hospital. The role supports the dermatology lead and the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in delivering psychological care for patients with inflammatory skin conditions.
As part of the dermatology team you will provide psychological assessment, treatment and consultation, support the MDT with trauma‑informed care, and contribute to service development including research and audit. The post offers the chance to develop specialist clinical skills in a supportive environment with access to supervision, training and peer collaboration.
Responsibilities- Provide psychological care consistent with the Trust’s World Class Care values.
- Conduct assessments, deliver evidence‑based interventions and arrange timely referrals within the dermatology service.
- Formulate, advise and offer consultation to the MDT on the psychological aspects of patient care.
- Support patients in understanding the interaction between their disease and their emotional well‑being.
- Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the service’s policies and procedures.
- Support the MDT in delivering integrated care, including training on psychological aspects and ensuring psychological considerations are addressed in research, audit, policy and service development.
- Utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and contribute to research within the team’s scope.
- Post‑graduate doctoral level training in psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the British Psychological Society.
- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist.
- Specialist psychological assessment and treatment across diverse care settings (community, primary care, outpatient, inpatient).
- Experience working with a wide range of client groups across the life course and presenting problems of varying clinical severity.
- Experience in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary settings, including joint consultations with medical/physical health staff.
- Experience in dermatology, plastic surgery, burns or acute/community health settings working with chronic health conditions.
- Experience in audit, research methods, and application of psychology in varied cultural contexts.
- Expertise in complex psychological assessment, intervention and management methods.
- Knowledge of theories and interventions relevant to skin conditions, body‑image anxiety, PTSD and secondary psychological difficulties.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, capable of presenting technical information to clients, families and professional colleagues.
- Capability to provide consultation to professionals and non‑professionals.
- Doctoral‑level knowledge of research methodology, design and quantitative data analysis.
- Knowledge of legislation relevant to clients and mental health.
- Evidence of continued professional development in line with the British Psychological Society / HCPC.
- Ability to build effective multidisciplinary working relationships.
- Proficiency in two specialised psychological therapies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong time‑management and prioritisation.
