This post is suitable for an experienced doctor interested in a career in Paediatrics. The successful applicant will be part of a large general paediatric team providing care to children admitted to the inpatient ward (Jacks Place – 28 beds), the short stay paediatric ward (Rainbow unit – 8 beds), Paediatric A&E and Paediatric outpatients (general and numerous sub‑speciality clinics, including allergy, epilepsy, gastro, sickle cell disease, endocrine, asthma, TB and infectious diseases, cardiology). The post is also ideal for an experienced paediatric doctor who can demonstrate that they have achieved the competences expected of a new ST4+ level paediatric trainee. MRCPCH or equivalent is desirable. It is suitable for those interested in advancing their general paediatrics knowledge and developing their administrative skills in a teaching hospital environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Management of inpatients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases, palliative care (POSCU, neurodisability patients), assisting in ward rounds on a middle grade competence and the opportunity to lead supervised.
  • Management of well and unwell children in A&E and the paediatric assessment unit.
  • Leading or supporting Consultant in resuscitation in A&E and on the ward.
  • Semi‑Independent Registrar clinics with a Consultant.
  • Middle‑grade responsibilities for a Daycare Unit, SDEC and PAU.
  • Child protection medical examination, statement writing under Consultant supervision.
