We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated dietitian to join our band 5 rotations and provide a service to a variety of inpatient and outpatient areas, including respiratory, diabetes, surgical, care of the elderly, paediatrics and oncology. If you enjoy working as part of a team, using your initiative, and developing clinical and professional skills within a dynamic and supportive environment, this is an ideal opportunity. The post is suitable for newly qualified dietitians or band 5 dietitians seeking further experience. Please note that although this is a 9‑month post, a permanent band 5 role may become available during the duration of the assignment.
Main Duties of the Job:
- The role will primarily involve inpatient work with patients across a variety of specialities, managing oral and enteral feeding.
- You will also have opportunities for outpatient work in general dietetic clinics and contribute to teaching and training of nurses, medical staff, and patient education sessions.
- The post holder will work closely with senior dietitians who will support and train you while offering exposure to other areas of dietetics.
- You will develop resources and participate in quality improvement projects, maintain high standards, and provide student training for several universities.
Working for Our Organisation:
UHD is investing in and developing services in line with the New Hospital Programme. Some services may relocate temporarily or permanently over the coming year; in such cases, excess mileage will not be reimbursed and travel is treated as a normal commute. The fixed‑term post will be offered as a secondment in line with the Trust’s Secondment Policy. Please discuss any secondment details with your line manager before applying.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:- BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or Post Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics.
- Registered Dietitian (UK) with HCPC registration or awaiting HCPC registration.
- Clinical supervisory skills training.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
- Experience of group presentations.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Recent clinical experience as a dietitian or dietitian student within the NHS setting.
- MDT involvement.
- Previous clinical experience at band 5 level.
- Experience of training dietetic students.
- Experience of collaborative working across/between professions to achieve agreed outcomes.
- Word processing/IT skills for correspondence and the production of educational material.
- Ability to carry out and interpret anthropometric measurements.
- Effective problem‑solving skills with clinical examples.
- Data collation and analysis skills.
- Competent in dealing with patients, colleagues, and health care staff.
- Ability to work as part of a team with professional maturity.
- Knowledge of the dietetic and medical management of patients who require nutrition support, with clinical examples.
- Up‑to‑date and confident dietetic knowledge, demonstrated with examples.
- Knowledge of dietetics within the NHS, with examples.
- Ability to complete allocated projects and meet deadlines.
- Self‑motivated.
- Experience working under pressure.
