Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with Specialist Interest in Revision Knee Arthroplasty. We seek consultants with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation. This post is an integral part of the ongoing development of Trauma and Orthopaedic services in our area, meeting rising demand and complexity of orthopaedic trauma and knee surgery. The successful applicant will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork, challenging existing practices and constantly improving service delivery to achieve best-practice outcomes.

Main duties of the job:

  • Participation in the provision of general orthopaedic trauma care
  • All aspects of knee surgery
  • Work collaboratively with existing consultants to lead and develop the service
  • Maintenance of high-quality, patient-centred care
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary team
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Active participation in departmental research

Qualifications / Training:

  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at interview time, or provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • FRCS Tr&Orth or equivalent qualification
  • Higher Trauma and Orthopaedic (or equivalent) training
  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to Orthopaedics (e.g., Masters / MD / MRes / PhD)
  • Fellowship training in hip surgery
  • ATLS instructor

Experience:

  • Broad experience in trauma and orthopaedics
  • Proficient in management and treatment of complex peri-prosthetic hip trauma
  • Experience supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving change in practice
  • Published papers and original work in peer-reviewed journals
  • Understanding of audit, evidence-based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
  • Active participation in research and development
  • Experience in orthopaedic trauma at a UK Major Trauma Centre
  • Demonstrable orthopaedic trauma experience in a locum consultant or consultant role
  • Demonstrable hip surgery experience in a locum consultant or consultant role
  • Experience of robotic-assisted hip replacement

Skills:

  • Evidence of engagement with clinical governance and identification and learning from errors
  • Evidence of engagement with appraisal and revalidation
