Our Trust is on an exciting journey to enhance ENT services for local patients. Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust are currently looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Consultant in ENT to join our friendly and dynamic team.

Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of ENT with specialist interest in Head & Neck (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview.

Main duties of the job

We are offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Doctor to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care. The Trust wishes to appoint a full time ENT Consultant Surgeon with a specialist interest in Head & Neck to provide both elective and emergency care of ENT patients. We are taking applications for a substantive position.

The candidate appointed will work on both the St Helens and Whiston sites for both theatres and outpatient clinics with further scope in the future to work on Southport and Ormskirk sites.

Acute Care

Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.

Primary Care

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.

Community Services

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration and on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
  • Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT on successful application
  • MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • Valid ATLS Provider Status or equivalent medical qualification
  • Success in intercollegiate specialty examination or overseas equivalent
  • Postgraduate thesis or equivalent medical qualification

Experience

  • Evidence of achievement of competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Demonstrates the necessary range, depth and breadth of competencies in ENT to provide both adult and paediatric work
  • Fellowship of similar advanced clinical experience in the appropriate area
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience
  • Demonstrates ability to undertake robust audit / research within team structure within the last 3 years
  • Evidence of relevant academic achievements e.g. degrees, awards
  • Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentation, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 3 years
