Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Band 6 Children’s Community Sister (part‑time 36 hours). The role involves working within a 7‑day service covering children and young people aged 0–16 (and up to 19 for SEND) across home, special schools and community settings. Shift patterns will be 12‑hour shifts and some 8:30‑16:30 shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical care and treatments for children and young people within the community nursing team.
- Support children and families with acute and complex conditions, and life‑limiting conditions.
- Coordinate virtual ward participation and attend daily ward rounds to support early discharge.
- Take lead on an area of responsibility, championing work, reviewing national guidelines, and maintaining quality and research‑driven service.
- Support junior staff and students through mentorship and guidance.
- Develop and deliver teaching and training to education and nursery settings.
- Support local special schools and provide care plans.
- Provide flexible hours including pre‑school and evening support and 24/7 palliative care service.
Qualifications and Training
- Registered Children’s Nurse – BSc Hons child nursing.
- Qualification in teaching/mentoring or experience in formal training delivery.
- Community Specialist Practitioner or willingness to undertake the course.
- Paediatric life support training up to date.
- Advanced communication skills training.
- Counselling training.
- Children’s community degree.
Experience
- Experience within a children’s community nursing team.
- At least 3 years working as a band 5 staff nurse.
- Experience of autonomous patient care delivery.
- Experience of multi‑agency and collaborative working.
- Experience with children with complex medical needs.
- Leadership and management experience and managing change.
- Experience of high‑level complex communication.
- Experience of IV therapy, venepuncture and port management.
- Experience in transition and preparing for adulthood.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Skilled teaching and training delivery.

- IT literate and experienced with systems and processes.
- Works effectively with MDT and outside agencies.
- ENB Mentorship or equivalent.
