Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population. Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We are pleased to invite applications for a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest in oncology to join our dedicated and forward‑thinking team. You will be primarily based at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, with an expectation to work flexibly across Mid and South Essex (MSE) sites in line with service needs. Our Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department is committed to delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to women across the Mid‑Essex region, including Chelmsford, Witham, Braintree, and Maldon. You will play a key role in providing expert clinical care, contributing to service development, and supporting multidisciplinary collaboration within a well‑established team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your specialist interest in oncology while contributing to a service focused on innovation, patient safety, and continuous improvement.

We are looking for a motivated and dedicated clinician with strong clinical expertise and a commitment to delivering outstanding care to our local community.

Main duties of the job:
  • Provide full‑time Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, including labour ward cover, antenatal and general gynaecology clinics, and elective/emergency theatre work.
  • Develop a specialist focus in oncology, supporting the oncology lead in managing cancer and complex benign cases.
  • Deliver high‑quality surgical care, with advanced minimal access (laparoscopic) skills highly desirable.
  • Contribute to service delivery across MSE sites, supporting service change and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively within the team to ensure safe, effective, and patient‑centred care across obstetrics and gynaecology services.

Person specification:Qualifications:
  • MBBS or Equivalent
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council
  • Completed ATSM in Oncology / Benign Gynaecology
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview
  • Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent
  • Colposcopy accreditation
  • Minimal access surgery skills
Knowledge & Experience:
  • Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, other specialties and support staff
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi‑professional team
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Knowledge and experience of supervising undergraduates, resident doctors and other staff ability to teach clinical skills
  • Gynaecology robotic surgery experience.
