We also provide anaesthetic services to 2 theatres at Braintree Community Hospital which offer elective orthopaedic surgery.

Main duties of the job

Be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic and perioperative care across a broad spectrum of clinical specialties. A core focus of this role is professional advancement via the CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) pathway, requiring you to maintain meticulous portfolio evidence and engage fully in Specialist Interest Area (SIA) modules under consultant supervision. Beyond clinical tasks, you will be expected to contribute to the department's educational culture by attending teaching sessions, workshops, and simulation training. Play a key role in departmental safety & evolution through involvement in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical governance, while fulfilling service requirements by contributing to the local on‑call rotas.

Based mainly in Broomfield Hospital covering all theatres and remote site but will also include the opportunity to cover elective orthopaedic work at Braintree Community Hospital. The on‑calls will predominantly cover maternity theatres/labour ward, plastics trauma and a senior anaesthetist (1330) tier. There will be an opportunity to rotate onto the Burns ITU and General ITU rota as well.
