The successful candidate will join our growing team within the elective Orthopaedic department. Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible, under the supervision of the consultant, for the day-to-day care of elective patients on ward 14 and the Day Case Unit at Fairfield General Hospital, Bury. The post holder will work with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to ensure an appropriate, professional and timely provision of care to patients on a busy elective unit.

There will be an on-call commitment to cover elective orthopaedic patients and cross cover ENT and General Surgery on a 1 in 9 basis on the Fairfield Hospital site. You will be first on-call for ENT admissions on the Fairfield hospital site (following appropriate induction), fully supported by an ENT Registrar and Consultant on call.

Although the post is not recognised by the Post Graduate Dean for the purpose of training you will be assigned a clinical supervisor and have regular appraisals to help you build your portfolio. You will be expected to participate in audit and research within the department and will be allowed study leave and funding for attendance at appropriate courses and professional exams.

Person specification

Qualifications & Conditions

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid Licence to Practise.
  • Some experience in Trauma & Orthopaedic surgery
  • MRCS or show evidence of equivalent training and experience

Experience and clinical skills

  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation years 1 and 2 or equivalent.
  • Evidence of completion of formal 'hands on' training in Basic Life Support (BLS) (or above) in the 12 months prior to submitting an application.
  • Relevant experience in other specialties that would complement a career in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery e.g. Plastic surgery, Vascular surgery, anaesthetics…
  • Previous NHS experience in surgical or medical specialities.
  • Extracurricular activities/achievements relevant to career in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery

Audit & Research

  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit and research. Active involvement in audit (clear description, outcomes & appropriate experience for level of application).
  • Presentations (oral or poster) at international, national, regional or local meetings.
  • Relevant contribution to management (rotas, committees etc)
  • Teaching achievement
