Job overview:
At Burnley General Teaching Hospital, our Patient Services Assistants (PSAs) support every in‑patient during their stay with the Trust, providing a general cleaning service and ensuring specialist cleaning activity is delivered in a timely manner to meet the very high standards expected in this environment. You will see patients through their whole hospital journey, so this can be a very challenging yet extremely rewarding experience, and your contribution will make a real difference to thousands of patients every year, whether you work around our medical, surgical or emergency areas of specialty.
Main duties of the job:
- Undertaking general cleaning duties – including wards, clinics, toilets, offices and public areas within your zone.
- Undertaking deep cleans in your area which may include:
- Clearing up and removing bodily spillages, urine, vomit, faeces and so on.
- The safe movement and decontamination of beds and other furniture.
- Cleaning at high and low levels eg removal and replacement of curtains, using ladders where necessary.
- Buffing, scrubbing and redressing of floors as well as carpet cleaning using appropriate machinery involving under bed cleaning.

- Previous experience of delivering quality customer service – working with patients/clients/customers.
- Previous cleaning, and/or portering experience.
- Understands and complies with detailed procedures, understands signs and instructions and retains the information.
- Confident working with information technology such as digital hand‑held devices and Microsoft Office packages.
- GCSE English and Maths, grade C or above or grade 9‑4 or equivalent qualification in English and Maths.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake the NVQ Level 2 Facilities Services qualification and other training as identified by the Trust.

In line with other NHS organisations in the North West Region, the Trust passes the charge for undertaking a DBS check on to candidates in the event of successful appointment. The cost for an Enhanced Disclosure is £55.38 and for a Standard Disclosure is £27.38. This cost is not applicable for a Volunteer post.

The advertised salary is for full‑time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro‑rated. For posts on the Agenda for Change pay‑scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
