We’re looking for an organised, proactive and supportive Senior Medical Secretary to join our Trauma & Orthopaedics team. In this key role, you’ll provide high‑quality secretarial support to named consultants while leading and coordinating a team of administrative staff to ensure a smooth, efficient and patient‑focused service.
About the Role
- Provide a full medical secretarial service, including audio/copy typing, letter production, diary management and handling calls and enquiries.
- Support consultants with meeting preparation, correspondence, patient appointments and clinic organisation.
- Act as a central link between the multidisciplinary team, helping maintain excellent patient pathways.
- Use and develop departmental IT systems and ensure accurate records and processes.
Main duties of the job
Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervise secretarial staff, coordinate workloads and ensure consistent service cover.
- Assist with recruitment, induction, appraisals and identifying training needs.
- Support performance management and maintain a positive, professional team environment.
- Manage office resources, equipment and stationery.
RTT & Administrative Expertise
- Act as the administrative lead for RTT, tracking potential breaches and supporting accurate clock‑start/stop processes.
- Provide training and troubleshooting support to admin staff.
- Help drive improvements in office systems and service efficiency.
