Job Description:

Fixed term contract until 31st March 2026

Caerlaverock is a stunning nature reserve situated on the north Solway coast. We are looking for someone to join our team to help raise the profile of this wildlife-rich reserve, welcome more visitors, and enhance their experience.

Wilder, wetter Caerlaverock is an innovative project funded by NatureScot through the Nature Restoration Fund, aiming to restore wetland habitats across the reserve. The project involves raising water levels to create suitable conditions for rare species like natterjack toads, restoring wetlands to former farmland, and assessing saltmarsh restoration potential. Infrastructure such as fencing, water troughs, and cattle handling pens are being installed to effectively manage the reserve for wildlife.

We seek a dynamic individual to oversee project works across this striking reserve, contributing to its ecological future. Candidates should have experience in landscape-scale habitat restoration and habitat management, with a track record of delivering quality projects and monitoring outcomes. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential for working with colleagues, volunteers, neighbours, graziers, and contractors.

If you enjoy working in a small team within a beautiful, wildlife-rich environment, we encourage you to apply. We look forward to hearing from you.

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a conservation charity dedicated to wetlands preservation for wildlife and people. We conserve, restore, and create wetlands globally. With ten UK sites attracting around a million visitors annually, we are leaders in wetland wildlife conservation, both domestically and internationally, influencing policies and promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Benefits include:

  • 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays), increasing to 38 days after 5 years of service
  • Contributory pension scheme with up to 7% matching
  • Life assurance of three times the annual salary
  • Access to health and wellbeing resources, including a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
