Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast.

We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system.

We’ve raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund, alongside strategic angels including Nico Rosberg and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber.

We’re building a fully integrated energy company: developing our own solar, batteries and other generation projects, building our own hardware, improving and developing grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, using AI across the business, and installing distributed energy in homes.

By selling directly to consumers we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass the savings on to our customers.

As Lab Manager, you will own the day-to-day running of our hardware research lab in London, where we develop and test our home energy products.

This is a hands-on technician role: you will keep a fast-moving lab safe, organised and fully operational, while directly supporting the engineering team with high-quality assembly and rework.

You will be the person who makes the lab work: every tool in its place, every instrument maintained and in calibration, every prototype build supported - so engineers can focus on engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Run the lab day to day: layout, organisation, labelling and housekeeping of benches, tools, components and prototypes - keeping a tidy, efficient workspace as the team and equipment grow.
  • Perform SMD soldering, rework and repair on prototype boards (fine-pitch components, hot-air and iron rework, modifications to engineering instructions).
  • Build cable and wire harnesses for prototypes and test rigs: cutting, crimping, connector assembly and labelling, to consistent, documented quality.
  • Manage lab inventory: components, consumables and tools - tracking stock, ordering replacements before they run out, and receiving/booking in deliveries.
  • Maintain lab equipment: routine care of soldering stations, power supplies and instruments, and running the equipment calibration schedule with our external calibration partners.
  • Uphold lab safety: ESD discipline at every bench, PPE, safe handling and storage of lithium batteries, and keeping safety procedures and signage current.
  • Support engineers with test setup builds, fixture assembly, mechanical assembly and general prototype work.
  • Manage goods in/out, including packaging and shipping of hardware and batteries to partners and test houses.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) as an electronics technician, with time spent running or maintaining a lab or workshop.
  • Excellent hand-soldering and SMD rework skills, down to fine-pitch components.
  • Able to read and work from electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and rework instructions.
  • Hands-on experience building wire harnesses and cable assemblies (crimping, connectors, strain relief) to a consistent standard.
  • Naturally tidy, organised and methodical - you take pride in a well-run lab and notice when something is out of place.
  • Working knowledge of ESD-safe practices and safe handling of electrical/electronic hardware.
  • Comfortable using basic test equipment (multimeter, bench power supply, soldering/rework stations).
  • IPC certification (IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620 or IPC-7711/7721 rework) is a strong plus.
  • Experience handling or shipping lithium batteries, and a practical attitude to health & safety, are a plus.
  • Competitive salary and an equity sign-on bonus
  • Biannual bonus scheme
  • Fully expensed tech to match your needs
  • Paid annual leave
  • Breakfast and dinner allowance for office based employees
