The Upper Limb Team are happy to advertise their Fellowship. We have three posts available in total: 1 post starting February 2027 Hands only, and 2 posts starting August 2027 Hands only. Please do not apply if you are unable to start on these specific dates.
Main duties of the job:
- Attend clinics at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh as required.
- Participate in elective, trauma and emergency surgery as required.
- Attend arthroplasty meetings and prepare presentations for MDT meetings.
- One Fellow will be responsible for maintaining the Peri-Prosthetic Infection log.
- The posts may require fellows to participate in the non-resident out of hour’s rota dependent upon the service requirements.
- Carry out ward rounds and clerk patients on the day of surgery.
- In addition to consent, all patients for theatre require a thromboprophylaxis assessment to be completed by the admitting doctor and full assessment of medications on admission.
- Manage inpatients in conjunction with allied specialties at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary (Wigan Infirmary).
- Maintain clear and contemporaneous medical records.
Person specification:
- Qualifications: MBChB, MBBS or equivalent; Full registration with GMC with licence to practice; FRCS (Orth/Plast) or equivalent; Higher Degree (MD, PhD).
- Experience: Higher Specialist Training; Experience in Hand and Upper Limb Surgery; Previous upper limb fellowship; Relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Skills: Team Player; Ability to keep good clinical records; Ability to set priorities in face of conflicting demands.
- Additional: Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
