Specialist Physiotherapist - Acute Medicine in Wigan

We are looking for a motivated and adaptable physiotherapist who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment to join our well established Acute Medical Team. You will provide high quality assessment and treatments across a diverse range of medical specialities. This is a varied and rewarding role which may require you to work across multiple ward environments, responding to changing clinical priorities and supporting patients with a wide range of acute medical conditions, including frailty. The successful candidate will be confident managing a dynamic caseload, making timely clinical decisions and working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to optimise patient flow and deliver safe, effective discharge planning.

We’re looking for someone who is flexible, resilient and able to adapt quickly to changing service demands. In return you will join a supportive and experienced team that values innovation, teamwork and continual professional development. The role involves the support and development of junior staff and students. As part of your role, you will work across 7-days participating in the weekend rota and on-call physiotherapy rota. Experience of working at band 5 or 6 level in acute medicine physiotherapy is essential.

Main duties of the job

• To provide a high standard of physiotherapy service to patients with medical conditions across the acute medical unit and wards.
• To take a role in the specialist assessment and treatment of patients within the medical speciality.
• To hold responsibility for own case load.
• To work jointly with all members of the MDT.
• To educate and train physiotherapists, other health professionals and physiotherapy students.

Person specification

• Qualifications: Diploma or degree in occupational therapy/physiotherapy (as relevant), HCPC registration, Evidence of post qualification personal and professional development.
• Skills: Evidence of clinical reasoning skills, excellent interpersonal skills, involvement in relevant clinical audit, ability to pass on skills/knowledge to others, ability to work independently and collaboratively, excellent communication skills, critical appraisal skills, ability to maintain judgement under pressure, ability to participate in the education of other healthcare professionals including students, forward thinking, motivation and enthusiasm.
• Knowledge: Knowledge of a range of approaches to the physiotherapy management of a variety of musculoskeletal disorders, evidence of self-directed learning.
• Experience: Experience in acute medicine physiotherapy, post graduate experience within an inpatient setting, evidence of relevant courses and CPD.
• Additional: Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, access to own transport for work purposes, participation in 7 day service provision.
