An opportunity has arisen for Anaesthetic ODPs & Registered Nurses to join a highly motivated multi-disciplinary team. Our departments are focused on delivering patient-centred care, with emphasis on quality, patient safety and staff engagement. Theatres are building a dynamic multi-skilled workforce and this position would look favourably at flexibility into recovery and/or scrub areas and an internal rotation across our sites.

Main duties of the job

  • To be eligible for this position you must be a registered nurse with a nationally recognised anaesthetic qualification or an Operating Department Practitioner.
  • You will be enthusiastic, dynamic, motivated and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • This post involves a 24hr working pattern including weekends and night duty.
  • We provide staff with training and development opportunities and actively encourage CPD.
  • We have numerous specialities at WWL the acute site providing a 24 hour emergency and obstetric service with speciality specific elective surgery such as ENT, laparoscopic, orthopaedic trauma, urology and gynaecology.
  • Wrightington is our orthopaedic elective centre and Leigh our day surgery unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Identifying what is required of self in delivering individualised patient care.
  • Developing competencies in self that safeguard practice and effectiveness in role.
  • Ensuring compliance with NMC / HCPC Codes of Conduct.
  • Participation in the effective use of allocated resources / funding.
  • Demonstrating awareness of; and participation in development to meet demands, and adapt to the changing needs of the service.
  • Empowering self and colleagues to creatively meet professional and organisational objectives.
  • Promoting safe systems, which assure all aspects of risk reduction, compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the agenda for Clinical Governance.
  • Demonstrating an awareness of local/national policies and strategies, and ensure up-to-date working knowledge of legal matters that may impact within the clinical area.
  • Identifying, maintaining and improving the quality of care through application of evidence-based practice.
  • Participating in self-development and development of less experienced staff to creatively meet professional and organisational objectives.

Person specification

  • Qualifications: RN 1st Level with University module care of the anaesthetised patient or Registered ODP.
  • Experience: Demonstrate ability as professional role model, experience of working on own and as a member of a team, working knowledge of theatres.
  • Skills: Participation in research/audit, ability to maintain and improve standards of care, excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, evidence of undertaken research/audit, specialist clinical skills within appropriate field, basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge: Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues, understanding of research/audit, knowledge of evidence-based practice.
  • Additional: Internal Rotation, flexibility, adaptability and positive approach to work, enthusiasm/motivation, speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration. This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
