We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurse to join our Rheumatology Department. This position is offered on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis to provide maternity cover and represents an excellent opportunity to gain experience within a specialist clinical area.
You will ideally have relevant experience within a caring or clinical environment, demonstrating a commitment to delivering high‑quality, patient‑centred care. Cannulation and venepuncture skills are essential, along with confidence in IV therapy administration.
You must be able to work day duty over a 5 day week.
NHS Employees are required to secure their manager’s agreement for a secondment arrangement prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as it has been established to provide maternity cover and will end in 12 months or when the substantive post holder returns. Whilst this post is advertised on an acting / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

Planning and Organisational Duties
- Identifying what is required of oneself and others in delivering individual patient care.
- Developing personal competencies to safeguard practice & effectiveness in role, ensuring compliance with the NMC Code of Conduct & working within NICE guidelines.
- Participation in the effective use of allocated resources/funding.
- Demonstrating awareness & participation in development to adapt to the changing needs of the service.
- Empowering self & colleagues to creatively meet professional & organisational objectives.
- Responsible in ensuring the effective running of the department in the absence of the deputy ward manager and ward manager.
- To maintain a high standard of evidence‑based practice by incorporating current trends & ideas.
- Carry out relevant investigations as ordered by medical practitioners.
- Participate in nurse led clinics following appropriate training.
- Liaising with other hospital & community services when necessary.
- Functioning as an independent team member whilst providing support for other team members.
- Reviewing workload & evaluating efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
- Identifying problems and resolving them in a timely manner.
- Maintaining professional standards of care.
- Organising own time and that of juniors.
- Deputise for deputy ward manager and ward manager.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
- In conjunction with senior nursing staff & specialist nurses, participate in the setting/monitoring & evaluation of standards of care.
- To communicate effectively with all members of the MDT regarding patient care.
- To assist with the investigation & timely resolution of complaints and PALS enquiries.
Responsibility for Finance
- Participate in ensuring the effective use of all financial resources in providing and delivering the service.
- Demonstrate awareness of the need for cost improvement programmes within the service.
- Promote effective utilisation of resources.
- Provide the service within its financial constraints.
Responsibility for Human Resources
- Adhere and promote trust policies, procedures, guidelines and maintain the Professional Code of Conduct.

Qualifications
- Registered General Nurse (RGN). Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Teaching and Assessing Course. Degree/Diploma studies. Specialist skills course.
Experience
