NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY! Join our Sterile Services & Decontamination Unit to play a vital role in patient safety.

Main duties

The Sterile Services Technician will perform safe and efficient decontamination of reusable medical devices across four process areas.

  • Complete a 6‑9 month supported training programme and achieve competency in decontamination sciences.
  • Disassemble, clean, reassemble, pack and sterilise high‑value, complex reusable medical devices.
  • Record all tasks using the Getinge IMS Track & Trace System.
  • Identify defects, perform troubleshooting and report to the relevant manager.
  • Maintain knowledge through ongoing development and annual ‘Test Your Knowledge’ assessment.
  • Operate washer‑disinfectors/sterilisers and carry out routine tests in line with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedule.
  • Replenish raw materials and manage stock levels.
  • Assist in training new starters and support implementation of procedures.
  • Plan workloads to meet customer and KPI requirements while ensuring high quality standards.
  • Report accidents, machinery difficulties or any incidents to the Team Leader.

Qualifications

  • Educated to GCSE standard or NVQ Level 2.
  • National Decontamination Certificate.
  • Commitment to work towards NVQ Level 3 in health care.

Experience

  • Team working and effective communication.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Flexible, adaptable to change at short notice.
  • Experience of task‑related problem solving and escalation.
  • Supporting new team members.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • NHS experience or experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge and experience of decontamination or infection prevention.
  • Experience in process environments such as food or pharmaceutical.

  • Work independently and as part of a team across sterile service process areas.
  • Accuracy under pressure with strong attention to detail.
  • Plan own workload to meet KPI and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Exposure to blood, body fluids and high‑risk contaminated reusable medical devices.
  • Speak English at an appropriate standard for the role.
