1 MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Global Resource Mobilisation Department supports and inspires WWF to increase its public and private resources for WWF’s mission. Additionally, the department works collaboratively with WWF offices to mobilize resources for global conservation priorities through forging strategic public sector, corporate, and philanthropic partnerships. The advertised role specifically supports the efforts of WWF International’s philanthropic partnerships whilst also sharing learning and best practices across the WWF landscape.

2 MAJOR FUNCTIONS

The Philanthropic Partnerships Writer contributes to the team’s production of concepts, proposals, stewardship reports, and other products that will inform, inspire, and present a clear and compelling case for major donor and foundation/trust support of WWF’s conservation priorities. These high-level and tailored pieces must convey donor impact and the organization’s appreciation of transformational philanthropic partnerships.

3 MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates across multiple teams and stakeholders to develop compelling funding opportunities, technical reports, and other donor communications:
  • Review and edit technical donor reports for clarity, tone, and accuracy, crosschecking against existing goals, objectives, and activities;
  • Collaborate closely with finance staff to secure accurate gift and grant expense information for reporting purposes;
  • Partner with the communication manager to track deadlines and deliverables;
  • Writes both generic and highly personalized narratives for WWF’s highest-level individual philanthropic partners and foundations that accurately transform complex materials into highly readable, informative, and compelling cases for support;
  • Working closely with relationship managers to coordinate or assist with the creation of program information to cultivate philanthropic partners based on their areas of interest;
  • In collaboration with the relationship managers, actively supports the development of donor stewardship and prospect cultivation strategies to deepen and strengthen donor/prospect engagement;
  • Plans and writes some donor communication materials, including newsletters, updates, web pages, etc to keep donors and prospects engaged in WWF’s work;
  • Support the philanthropy coordinator to maintain and update a Grant Management System.

4 PROFILE

Required Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in a relevant field;
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 3 years specific to philanthropy writing (developing proposals, concepts, reports, and presentations for high-net-worth individuals or foundations);
  • English mother tongue;
  • Experience working in an international environment, particularly in an NGO, would be an advantage.

Required Skills and Competencies.

  • Understanding of the principles of communications and fundraising, especially donor needs;
  • Proven ability to create donor friendly (content and design) materials, including proposals, reports, appeals and newsletters, whether digital or printed;
  • Proven ability to write about complex or technical topics;
  • Copy writing skills and openness to develop design skills;
  • Articulate, creative, flexible, tenacious, and dissatisfied with status quo;
  • Pro-active and working independently;
  • Attention to detail, diplomacy and discretion;
  • Fluency in French would be an advantage;
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural and multi-functional (conservation, finance, fundraising etc) environment;
  • Interest in conservation and environmental issues;

5 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal.

Fundraising department, Conservation staff, including Practice teams and local teams, Finance and project finance teams, Communications staff, National Offices, WWF Country Offices and other Network communications staff and Network fundraising staff.

External.

Creative agencies, multi-media production, designers, partners, other NGOs and stakeholders, freelance project staff.
