As Director, Data (GFS) for Europe, you will be at the forefront of WTW’s commercial strategy for the Global Banking and Financial Services (GFS) Study. Your mission: drive growth, foster client satisfaction, and ensure our data-driven insights empower Europe’s leading financial institutions. You will work closely with the European Financial Services advisory teams to ensure that GFS data, benchmarks and analyses are tailored to banking clients’ needs across Europe and are used consistently in advisory work. The position is a member of the European Financial Services team and has a matrix reporting line to the European Financial Services leader (based in Europe) and the GFS leader (based in the US). The Director will collaborate with a team of senior professionals in Europe and the US to enhance business development, optimize client relationships, and align objectives with evolving market demands. The role also includes providing expert guidance on the use of GFS data in advisory engagements and acting as the primary point of contact between advisory teams and the GFS data programme for European banking clients.
Data and Advisory Integration
- Work closely with European Financial Services advisory teams to understand client questions and ensure that GFS data, segmentations and peer groups effectively support those needs.
- Act as an internal subject matter expert on the GFS Study for banking clients in Europe, including methodology, coverage and appropriate use of the data in advisory work.
- Join key client discussions with advisory colleagues to explain data findings, respond to technical questions and support Remuneration Committee and executive-level conversations.
- Translate feedback from advisory projects and client work into requirements for the GFS data operations team, for example on new job families, peer cuts, regional segmentations or additional analytics.
- Support the design and delivery of bespoke benchmarking and analytics for strategic advisory projects, ensuring consistency between study data and project outputs.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Engagement & Relationship Management: Partner across W&R to engage prospects, understand their needs, and deliver tailored compensation data solutions. Oversee client renewals and account management with a strong focus on retention and upselling opportunities. Lead new client acquisition initiatives to ensure robust participation in studies and high levels of client satisfaction.
- Commercial Strategy & Market Positioning: Implement the Global GFS strategy, driving market penetration and competitive positioning. Monitor sales performance and trends for the GFS Study, identify improvement areas, and make data-driven decisions.
- Sales Growth & Campaign Support: Identify and track key accounts and sales objectives, influencing strategies for cross-selling and upselling. Support sales campaigns and track return on investment (ROI).
- Leadership & Team Development: Foster a sales culture within the team by coaching and mentoring members to become successful business developers. Encourage continuous learning and professional growth. Promote collaboration, open communication, and celebrate team successes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with W&R Practice Leaders, Industry Leaders, the European Financial Services advisory teams and the GFS data operations team to ensure a joined-up approach to European banking clients.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in commercial or business development roles within banking and financial services.
- Experience working with compensation survey data, benchmarking or similar market intelligence products, ideally within banking and financial services.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to inspire and motivate junior colleagues.
- Skilled at navigating multiple stakeholders and delivering results.
- Deep understanding of the banking and financial services industry, including market trends for informed decision-making and strategic planning.
- Clear, concise, and confident written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear messages for advisory colleagues and senior client stakeholders.
- Proven experience collaborating with consulting or advisory teams on client delivery, including joint client meetings and preparation of materials for senior committees.
