Risk Technology is a cross-functional team of software development specialists, geospatial information specialists and catastrophe / financial model specialists who bring best-in-class analytics, thought leadership and expertise in designing, building and supporting industry standard risk analysis tools.
This is an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in developing the change capabilities of a global financial services organisation, where the focus will be on practical delivery and reacting to the highest value business needs. You will be able to use your practical experience to hit the ground running, contribute to building high quality solutions to help meet our complex business requirements, challenge the technical design and delivery choices, demonstrate your detail-oriented approach with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ensure a successful delivery.
The Role:
- Use your substantial software delivery experience to ensure successful delivery of your projects as a lead developer and source of authority.
- Own delivery of a small suite of business-related projects ensuring architectural and solution alignment.
- Prioritise alignment to architectural, development and security standards.
- Work with the engineering lead to drive best practice, adoption of new technology and standards.
- Provide hands-on development of class leading web-based applications and services, using software best practices, as a technical expert.
- Work closely with the Solutions Engineering Lead maintaining good lines of communication.
- Demonstrate agility, ability to think outside the box and challenge established development processes and procedures.
- Bring your enthusiasm and drive to improve and work smarter to benefit our tools and products through awareness of technology trends and direction outside of the organisation.
- Demonstrate understanding of technical architecture to ensure enhancements and solutions are delivered in line with the vision.
- Adhere to, promote and improve development practices, collaborate on low level design and perform code reviews.
- Provide support and advice to more junior members of the team.
The Requirements:
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience leading, influencing and guiding solution delivery.
- Possess a strong work ethic with a desire to improve yourself through your work.
- Extensive years of software development experience.
- Strong experience with Angular (7-18+).
- Demonstrable competency in C#, Typescript with experience working with .NET Core and Python.
- Hands-on commercial experience in Azure cloud.
- Experience using Azure DevOps.
- Experience mentoring and guiding team members.
- Experience with all phases of the SDLC including maintenance and with Agile methodologies.
- Ability to work on own initiative or as part of a broader project team.
- First-rate communication skills and ability to apply these to rapid and creative problem solving in an occasionally pressurised environment.
- Comfortable working in a remote situation or face to face in meetings with stakeholders.
Desirable:
- BSc degree qualified educated in a quantitative discipline (Mathematics, Science or Computer Science).
- Experience building and working with mathematical algorithms.
- Experience with microservice based architectures.
- Experience understanding and translating complex business processes involving stakeholder groups and perspectives.
- Experience of working in a financial services organisation, preferably with exposure to the insurance industry/insurance broking.
- Where this directly relevant experience is not available, we will be looking for an ability to rapidly become effective in a new, unfamiliar environment.
The successful applicant will report to the Risk Technology Solutions Engineering Lead. The role offers hybrid working with travel to office expected on a regular cadence for meetings and workshops. Some occasional travel may be required as part of the engagement with business and technology stakeholders.
