Overview
We’re looking for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Fitter to support operations across our Widnes, Salford, and Bromborough sites.
This is a hands-on, mobile role where you’ll play a vital part in keeping our plant and machinery running safely, efficiently, and reliably. Your work will directly support site operations and help ensure Panda continues to deliver safe, compliant, and sustainable waste management solutions.
You’ll be working in a fast-paced, industrial environment where no two days are the same. A strong focus on safety, reliability, and problem-solving is essential.
Areas of responsibility
Plant & Machinery Maintenance
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of plant and machinery, including conveyors, shredders, excavators, and associated equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults quickly and carry out effective repairs to minimise downtime.
Multi-Site Support
- Provide maintenance support across Widnes, Salford, and Bromborough, travelling between sites as required using a company van.
- Respond to breakdowns and urgent issues to keep operations running smoothly.
Preventative Maintenance
- Deliver scheduled preventative maintenance to reduce unplanned failures and improve plant reliability.
- Identify recurring issues and contribute to continuous improvement of maintenance practices.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Promote safe systems of work and challenge unsafe practices where identified.
Documentation & Communication
- Accurately record maintenance activities, inspections, and parts used.
- Work closely with site teams and supervisors to resolve issues and improve equipment performance.
Experience and Skills
- Full UK Driving Licence (Category B) – essential for travel between sites
- Relevant qualification in plant maintenance, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline
- Proven experience maintaining heavy plant or industrial machinery (waste, recycling, manufacturing, quarrying, or similar environments preferred)
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Solid mechanical knowledge of heavy plant and associated systems
- Good communication skills and a team-focused approach
- A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards
