Technical Director Electrical Engineer – Data Centres (Building Services)

Location: London, United Kingdom

WSP is a leading global engineering firm. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technical Director to lead design, implementation, and operation of mission‑critical data centre projects across the UK and EMEA.

About the Role

The role combines leadership, innovation, and technical expertise. As a Technical Director, you will drive strategic initiatives, lead a team of electrical engineers, and collaborate with industry leaders to shape the future of data centre technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team’s day‑to‑day management, vision, values, and cooperation.
  • Develop client relationships and brand within the UK and EMEA.
  • Consistently meet monthly and annual budgets, support MEP budget planning, and continuously improve performance.
  • Work with the director and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives both within the team and across the business.
  • Share knowledge and technical skills with colleagues globally.
  • Drive profitable and sustainable work‑winning, maintaining up‑to‑date forecasting for the team and contributing to the wider MEP service delivery.
  • Oversee team performance, including work pipeline, finance, and operational management.
  • Build relationships with clients, developers, contractors, and architects to secure WSP’s position as the engineer of choice.
  • Act as the client’s key point of contact.
  • Provide excellent client care and identify opportunities to develop additional business for the team.
  • Promote new commissions to strengthen the business.

Qualifications

  • Chartered status through CIBSE/IET Engineering Council or willingness to pursue it.
  • Profound understanding of electrical systems – power distribution, generation, critical backup systems, and energy management.
  • Innovative problem‑solving ability with a track record of implementing effective solutions.
  • Leadership and team‑management skills to inspire, mentor, and manage resources.
  • Strategic vision to anticipate industry trends and align initiatives with business goals.
  • Project‑management experience overseeing planning, execution, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to the rapidly evolving data‑centre sector and changing business needs.
