A little bit more about your role:
As a Principal Engineer you will focus on technical and project delivery of energy storage assignments and take a leading position in developing WSP’s services in this area.
Your duties will include:

  • Leading and delivering high-quality technical services for feasibility, development, owner’s engineer, and technical due diligence assignments focused on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Experience in utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects.
  • Providing technical input to BESS developments at each stage of the project development lifecycle, including their integration with other electrical or generating plants as necessary.
  • Training, supervising, and reviewing the work of junior and middle-level engineers and being responsible for the level of quality of their work.
  • Advising clients on the project development and execution processes, including key stages, timescales, and risks.
  • Leading and supporting the project and interface management between engineering and environmental disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, control & instrumentation, planning, environmental, etc).
  • Drafting and reviewing technical specifications, e.g. employer’s requirements, evaluating tenders, and supporting negotiations for the appointments of contractors.
  • Carrying out client engagement activities, including reviewing enquiries and preparing proposals for prospective projects.
YOUR TEAM
WSP’s has a long history in the delivery of high-quality technical advisory and management consultancy services focused on renewable energy. We have worked on all major renewable energy technologies (i.e. offshore wind, onshore wind, solar PV, battery energy storage), including some of the world’s largest renewable energy projects. We have established client relationships with some of the largest and most well-known developers, investors, and lenders in the industry, and we support their projects across the globe.
Delivering high-quality, proactive, prompt and up-to-date technical services to our clients is paramount. We offer services at all stages of the project lifecycle, with a particular focus on the following core services:
  • Site layouts and optimisation, concept design and feasibility studies,
  • Technical due diligence,
  • Lender’s Technical Advisor (LTA) scopes of work,
  • Project development and Owner’s Engineer (OE) scopes of work, including tendering and contracting support, construction monitoring and management, and technical advisory services.
  • Hybrid Projects (including BESS) and BESS Capacity and Power Optimisations
  • Operation & Maintenance and Asset Management
We\'d love to hear from you if you have:
  • A degree in a relevant engineering, technical or scientific discipline, preferably a post-graduation in subjects related to the renewable energy sector,
  • An in-depth technical, commercial, and field knowledge regarding BESS technologies and their deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of emerging BESS technologies and the international market,
  • Strong knowledge of the BESS market and its key clients
  • Experience in developing UK utility-scale sites at any stage (experience from multiple stages would be preferred),
  • Capability to manage projects and lead a team of multi-disciplinary engineers,
  • Preferably have “Chartered Engineer” status or l progressing towards achieving Chartered status”,
  • Ability to engage directly with clients for the delivery of projects and to build positive relationship to support securing future work,
  • Attention to detail; ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
