A little more about your role…
We are seeking an Principal Engineer to help with our current workloads in the south and south east regions. You will be based out of either our Southampton, Basingstoke, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cambridge Guildford, Reading or London office.

  • Work directly with our clients to achieve their sustainable transport needs, managing traffic engineering and road safety schemes, analysing collision data, speed management, providing safety reviews of highway design proposals and undertaking Road Safety Audits
  • Acting as an Road Safety / Engineering designer & supporting the team on a wide range of projects whilst helping to grow and develop our work with clients
  • Preparing and reviewing reports, drawings, schedules and other documents in accordance with local procedures and guidance
  • Being responsible for the financial performance of projects
  • Undertaking technical review and checking of design deliverables within the team
  • Work collaboratively with the Liveable Places team, our colleagues in transport and the wider WSP business to achieve our aims and objectives

Liveable Places work with a wide range of national / local authority & private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place making ambitions. We deliver a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery that include public realm, traffic engineering, transport planning, road safety, traffic signals, pedestrian / traffic modelling, active travel, and parking. We have had recent key successes with West Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council, West Berkshire Council, Cambridgeshire County Council, West of England Combined Authorities, Devon County Council, National Highways, Westminster City Council and many, many more.
The Liveable Places team is based in offices across the country with over 200 staff currently making up the team, with further growth planned. We enjoy our work and are exceptionally enthusiastic people who are great at what we do. We have a strong track record working closely with our clients and this role provides a great opportunity to have a pivotal role within Liveable Places and help support and steer its growth going forward.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • You will have knowledge and appreciation of the Safe System of working.
  • You will have experience in managing colleagues and projects. You will have experience of monitoring budgets and reporting their status.
  • You will have expert knowledge of road safety including requirements for ensuring highway design meets standards and guidance and provides safe solutions for all road users.
  • You will have significant experience in collision data analysis and deriving solutions to road safety issues. You will be qualified as a Team leader in accordance with DMRB document GG 119 and able to undertake Road Safety Audits.
  • You will have excellent organisational skills and be able to prioritise workloads and ensure our service levels are maintained.
  • You will be able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. You will need to have a customer-focused nature to help build working relationships with your stakeholders.
