A little more about your role… WSP's Local Government division have a vacancy for a Senior Project Manager to join our team. The role can be based from either our Leeds or Stockton-on-Tees offices, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in-office and home working.

As a Senior Project Manager within WSP's Local Government division, you will take a lead role in managing a variety of interesting highways and infrastructure projects for our clients within the local government sector. This role will also involve the management of a small team of Project Managers across our Leeds and Teesside offices.

Your role will be a varied one, but responsibilities will include:

  • Managing our project management teams based in our Leeds and Teesside offices.
  • Co‑ordinating, developing and supporting project team members in their professional and personal development, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Managing interfaces between various project team members, ensuring projects are delivered on time, to budget and quality.
  • Developing project management plans including project scope, baseline programme, fee estimate, roles and responsibilities, risk analysis, technical review requirements, chairing progress meetings and producing weekly/monthly reports.
  • Identifying blockers to project delivery and finding resolutions.
  • Prioritising client satisfaction through building and maintaining strong relationships and engaging with key clients, whilst forming trusting relationships with colleagues to ensure effective co‑ordination for mutually beneficial outcomes.

Both teams are fundamental to our delivery of projects for both private sector and Local Authority clients, including our key local client, Leeds City Council, who we have been in partnership with for over 20 years.

You will have the fantastic opportunity to support our project managers delivering a wide range of interesting and significant projects - from schemes, such as the award winning Regent Street Flyover through to a diverse range of bridge refurbishment and maintenance improvements as well as feasibility studies and bridge inspection and assessment work throughout the UK.

You will follow agreed WSP Project Management systems and processes and industry best practice provided by the Association for Project Management (APM). The variance of work opportunities – from inception to completion – offers excellent prospects for career advancement and development. Training will be provided on the job and you will be fully supported to achieve professional accreditation in your chosen field.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience of working within the Civils/Highways sector in either project management and/or business administration and financial planning.
  • Experience in managing a range of project management activities, systems (including enterprise resource planning) and processes.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Construction Design Management 2015 and associated duties.
  • Experience in project and resource management with good financial and commercial awareness.
  • Knowledge of NEC 4 and qualification desirable.
