Overview
Principal Environmental (EIA) Consultant – London and South East. We are looking for a Senior level environmental professional to support our Environmental Management and Assessment Team in the London or South East Teams (London, Cambridge, Guildford, Reading, Basingstoke and Southampton). The role involves leading environmental inputs to projects across sectors such as energy, aviation, nuclear, rail, property and Local Government, from feasibility through to planning, detailed design, construction and handover/maintenance.
As a Principal EIA Consultant within WSP’s Environmental Assessment and Management team, you will work with a range of technical environmental specialists and design teams across multiple sectors to lead environmental teams and inputs to project designs and assessments, and to improve environmental performance for a diverse range of projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues.
- Collaborate with diverse environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement.
- Lead large, complex projects, overseeing technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety performance.
- Build relationships with clients and identify opportunities in resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery.
- Develop new client relationships and marketing opportunities, including presenting at conferences on behalf of WSP.
- Undertake activities to secure new work, including developing proposals for complex opportunities, delivering strategic bids and framework opportunities, and pursuing business development.
- Lead and contribute to development of innovative techniques (e.g., Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA).
- Drive performance improvement and career advancement across the team.
- Promote team culture and act as a go-to person within the wider team, supporting problem solving and achievement of goals.
- Promote an inclusive workplace with a strong Health & Safety culture and alignment with WSP values.
- Contribute to the success of the WSP business strategy with self-motivation towards role- and project-related goals.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- A relevant environmental degree in EIA or similar.
- Chartered Environmental Status or working towards Full membership of IEMA (or equivalent with a relevant professional body).
- Excellent experience of EIA and EIA processes with the ability to work with limited supervision within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Sound knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation.
- Verbal and written communication skills including report writing and reviewing with attention to detail.
- Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., rail, highways, energy, commercial/residential).
- Comprehensive project management skills, including commercial and risk aspects, forecasting and quality assurance.
