Overview

We are looking for a Principal EIA Consultant to support the Environmental Management and Assessment Team in the UK, based from any WSP UK office. The role spans onshore and offshore renewables, aviation, nuclear, rail, and other sectors. You will contribute to environmental design, assessment and management across the development project lifecycle and help shape projects to reflect environmental and community considerations.

As one of the largest environmental consultancies in the UK, WSP works on a range of projects from small developments to major national infrastructure schemes. Our team oversees and manages environmental inputs to these schemes, from early engagement through consent, design, construction and handover.

The role is suited to a proactive individual who can progress their career by taking the initiative to lead environmental elements of engineering projects across sectors including rail, highways, energy and commercial/residential, from feasibility to planning, detailed design, construction and maintenance.

What you will be doing

  • Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
  • Collaborate with diverse environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement
  • Lead large, complex projects, overseeing technical delivery, quality, commercial and health & safety performance
  • Build relationships with clients and identify opportunities for resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery
  • Develop new client relationships and market services, including presenting at conferences on behalf of WSP
  • Undertake activities to secure new work, including developing proposals, delivering strategic bids and framework opportunities, and pursuing business development opportunities
  • Lead and contribute to the development of innovative techniques (e.g., Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA)
  • Drive performance improvement and support career development across the team
  • Promote an inclusive workplace and health and safety commitment while upholding WSP values
  • Contribute to the success of the WSP business strategy with self-motivated goal setting

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • A relevant environmental degree at undergraduate level in EIA or similar
  • Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of IEMA, or a similar professional qualification
  • Excellent experience of EIA processes with ability to work with limited supervision within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of relevant environmental and planning legislation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and attention to detail
  • Experience in large-scale infrastructure projects (e.g., rail, highways, energy, commercial/residential)
  • Comprehensive project management skills, including commercial and risk aspects, forecasting and quality assurance

What we offer

  • Work-life balance with hybrid working policy: two days per week from home and access to WSP offices across the UK
  • Inclusive and belonging-focused culture with employee resource groups
  • Health and wellbeing support, including Thrive programme, Virtual GP service, workplace adjustments, gym benefits, and menopause support
  • Flexible working options, including part-time arrangements, additional leave purchase, and bank holiday entitlements
  • Development opportunities through training, mentoring and Chartership support
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion with Disability Confident status; applications from suitably qualified candidates are encouraged

Location: London or other UK offices. This posting notes that roles may involve travel and flexible arrangements as part of the role.
