The Operations & Safety (O&S) group of II provides high value advisory services enabling the delivery of sustainable and safe operating solutions for public and private sector clients (including National Highways, Transport Scotland, West of England Combined Authority (WECA) and National Grid) in support of Net Zero carbon and Vision Zero safety objectives.
Key Technical Areas
- Operational safety – helping clients understand and mitigate safety risks in designs, operations and technologies.
- Transport network operations – focusing on development and assessment of operational models / concepts and associated standards and procedures.
- Human centred design – applying the evidence‑based principles of human factors, ergonomics and behavioural science to design environments, systems, products and services.
- Strategy development – advising clients on the creation of sustainable, resilient and people‑focused strategies using business cases and innovation techniques (e.g., Digital Roads and Connected Plant).
- Policy monitoring and evaluation – providing specialist multi‑discipline monitoring and evaluation in line with Treasury requirements.
- Tunnel systems & operations – supporting clients in the design, operation and management of tunnels in the highway and utility sectors.
Qualifications
- Technical background with relevant qualifications (degree or equivalent higher education) in any of the above areas.
- Experience working on high‑quality consultancy‑style projects aligned with one of the six technical areas.
- Ability to analyse and interpret information from various sources and communicate findings effectively.
- Experience working as a client, consultant or contractor, ideally within transport, public sector or high‑risk environment.
