A little more about your role: The Offshore Substation Structural Lead will play a pivotal role in engineering and technical matters associated with offshore substations. This is a key growth area for WSP and offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and resourceful engineer to help drive and realise the company’s offshore wind strategy. The role will work across engineering and design, Owner’s Engineering and smaller scopes, requiring strong leadership and the ability to manage complex projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical authority for offshore substation structural engineering including topsides and jacket / monopile support structures.
- Take on offshore substation package manager roles on design projects and be responsible for co-ordinating and managing a multi-discipline team of engineers including electrical, mechanical, HVAC, cables, technical safety etc.
- Responsible for the topside layout design process to optimise equipment and room layouts with respect to constructability, operability, technical safety and structural weight.
- Support on Owner’s Engineer contracts and be competent to undertake design reviews; authoring of key project documentation such as Basis of Design, Technical Specifications and Employer’s Requirements; support of main asset procurement processes; and management of risk and programme.
- Support the growth of the offshore substation team in a global environment.
- Develop and implement new processes and procedures to streamline efficient delivery execution of offshore substation projects.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the offshore wind sector, contributing to the growth of the engineering function.
- Represent the company in technical discussions with stakeholders including clients, regulatory bodies and industry partners.
- Lead and contribute to the development of bids and proposals with a particular focus on technical content.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant technical regulations, standards and best practices.
- Manage technical budgets, schedules and resources effectively.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, project management, asset management, advisory and environmental teams.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in offshore wind technology and incorporate innovative solutions into projects.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:
- MEng in structural or civil engineering.
- Chartered Engineer or demonstratable progress in working towards.
- Significant experience in offshore substation topside and jacket / monopile support structures.
- Track record in delivery of offshore substation projects across all phases from concept, through to FEED, detailed design, fabrication and installation.
- Experience in supporting certification of offshore substations.
- Experience in preparation of offshore substation CAPEX estimates.
- Experience in developing key offshore substation technical documentation in support of main asset procurement such as Employer’s Requirements and Scope of Works.
- Excellent knowledge of the offshore wind industry and project development.
- Excellent knowledge of offshore substation industry standards.
- Excellent knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 including a demonstratable understanding of health, safety and environmental best practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong leadership and management experience.
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate both internal and external stakeholders.
- An established network in the offshore wind industry.
