WSP’s Transport & Mobility team brings together over 350 Transport Planning and Transportation Modelling experts across the UK & Ireland. We have a diverse portfolio of multidisciplinary and cross-sector projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Key project specialisms include transport strategy/policy, active travel planning and design, public transport planning, research, feasibility studies, training programmes and funding applications.

With a strong regional and national pipeline of work, we are looking to grow our team and would like to hear from Transport Planners, and those with complementary skills, who would be interested in opportunities within our teams. A little more about our roles… Exact roles and responsibilities will differ depending on the nature of your role and experience levels, but might include:

  • Leading on a variety of Transport Planning projects and proposals (both technical and commercial inputs).
  • Leading and managing tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively with our other WSP specialists to deliver multi-disciplinary projects from concept to delivery.
  • Providing specific support in securing and delivering work for our diverse local client portfolio.
  • Undertaking Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, Construction Traffic Management Plans and Travel Plans, including playing a hands-on role in Client and Local Authority scoping discussions.
  • Leading technical discussions around the accessibility of project/construction sites for a wide range of modes and articulate the impacts and mitigations required to support planning approvals.
  • Undertaking a lead role on technical review and checking of deliverables within the team.
  • Working in a collaborative client/consultant environment and representing our values when delivering the work for our clients.
  • Making an active contribution to WSP’s four pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and supporting our Leads in these roles.

You will have an opportunity to work collaboratively with our Net Zero, Future Mobility and Freight growth areas on a range of innovative strategies for our clients, as well as our extensive range of expertise practice groups, including Public Transport, Active Travel and Transport Communications.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Required experience will differ based on specific roles, but will likely include:

  • Experience in active travel, public transport, transport programme/scheme development and/or business case development.
  • Experience of developing transport-focused strategies, plans and policies.
  • Experience of working with Local Authority and Combined Authority clients.
  • Experience in managing and coordinating all aspects of transport assessments and strategies for major and/or complex projects.
  • The ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to successfully deliver presentations and liaise with a variety of audiences - including colleagues, public sector officials, members of the public and other key project stakeholders.
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to manage tasks and support wider team management.
