- Preparation of technical outputs to the highest standards in accordance with the WSP’s quality management system.
- Resolving rail civil engineering issues with the Engineering team through strong communication and collaboration.
- Production of drawings working closely with Engineers and Technicians to delivery to programme.
- Familiar and compliant with relevant Health, Safety and Welfare regulations and to promote WSP’s SHEW culture within your team.
- Proactively manage the delivery of drawings and models in Micro Station and within a CDE, such as Projectwise.
- Assist with Site Surveys, where necessary.

- Operate in a multi-disciplinary environment and delivering projects in a Common Data Environment (CDE).
- Opportunity to work on small teams / tasks / projects, possible line management responsibilities, supporting junior members of staff to support their development and reporting directly to the line manager.
- Roles/Responsibilities
- The production of engineering CAD deliverables using various CAD based tools, predominantly Bentley products.
- Can produce with support CAD based deliverables with the correct level of detail for the required stage of design. This could be feasibility through to detailed design.
- Can competently structure CAD designs.
- Can comply with varying CAD standards ensuring all deliverables are compliant.
- Has experience of using Data Management Systems and can comply with the system standards.
- Has some experience of multi-disciplinary design coordination using CAD tools and with support can integrate other designs into their own
- Liaise with colleagues, other departments and project teams with respect to drawing requirements
- Provide the Project Engineering Team with CAD & Design support throughout the project.
- Ensure that drawings are prepared, stored, issued and archived in accordance with company procedures
- Ensure that chargeable work can be evaluated by the preparation of adequate records of time spent
- Experience Train other staff members on the use of Microstation by means of individual coaching group training courses as appropriate
- Assist, when required, with storage, filing and archiving of documents.

- What we would be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Micro Station Experience
- Proven ability to produce accurate 2D rail‑civils drawings to UK standards.
- Experience developing and checking 2D and 3D models for multidisciplinary rail projects.
- Familiar with applying CAD QA processes, CRA‑V practices and structured drawing checks.
- Able to work from survey data, topographical information and other discipline inputs
- Work through full CAD lifecycle (site data – model – drawing – QA).
- 3D / BIM Experience
- Capable of creating 3D Micro Station models (track slab, walkways, structural elements).
- Able to generate long sections, cross sections and cut‑through views to show design changes, ground variation and asset interfaces.
- Clash detection awareness — able to identify clashes visually within the 3D environment (e. g., structures vs gauge, walkway vs equipment zones, civils vs signalling), supporting coordinated design reviews.
- Experience supporting BIM‑aligned workflows, including multidisciplinary model coordination.
- Comfortable using Li DAR / point cloud data to inform accurate 3D modelling.
- Project Wise Experience
- Confident navigating Project Wise, including check‑in/out, version control and workflow management - correct assurance process from Drawer- Designer-Checker-Approver and setting up Document Sets.
- Ensures compliance with naming conventions, metadata requirements and document control processes.
- Experienced issuing and managing CAD models and drawings within Project Wise for UK and international rail projects
- Rail Design Experience
- Base understanding of rail‑civils requirements, including key design principles such as gauges, clearances, heights, offsets, access/maintainability needs, structural constraints, and how these influence lineside civils, stations, depots and level crossing design.
- Understanding process of Technical Queries (may be more aligned to Senior Technicians), how they are raised and what input from CAD would be required (sketches, checks, dimensions etc).
- Able to manage your own time to meet project deadlines and budget targets.
- Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising planners, designers, engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance to less experienced members of the team.
- Working Practices & Soft Skills
- Ability to interpret engineers’ mark‑ups and sketches accurately.
- Comfortable working across multiple UK projects in parallel.
- Good written communication for comments, queries, and clarifications.
- Awareness of the importance of accuracy, consistency, and QA in UK rail submissions.
- Other
- Experience mentoring junior technicians.
- Coordinating drawings across interfaces with other disciplines i. e. Civils, Structures, MEP, Track, Signalling, Telecoms, etc.
- Supporting design reviews and responding to comments.
- Ability to respond to Project Manager and Client requests and meet challenging deadlines
