We are looking for a Senior Safety Consultant to join our team. In this role, you will play an important part in safety engineering and assurance services to a range of rail engineering projects. Your expertise will directly contribute to the enhancement of safety protocols, risk assessment methodologies, and overall project quality. You will also mentor and guide junior consultants, sharing your experience to foster their growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex rail safety engineering and assurance services, applying methods and tools aligned with standards such as EN50126, EN50129, IEC 61508, CSM-RA and the Railways Interoperability Regulations (RIR).
- Lead certification and authorisation projects, such as new railway stations, through assessment of National Technical Specification Notices (NTSNs), Infrastructure and PRM, and National Technical Rules (NTRs), such as GIRT7020 and GIRT7073.
- Lead the bidding, winning, and successful delivery of commercially viable projects, collaborating with clients to understand objectives and desired outcomes.
- Contribute to a diverse range of projects, including safety assurance management, safety approvals, and CSM work for major infrastructure projects such as the National Train Control Centre in Dublin, Crewe Hub remodelling, and the East Coast Mainline.
- Provide support to contractors in completing CSM and approvals for station and civils works.
- Work on global projects spanning Australia, the US, Canada, Asia and the Middle East, contributing from the UK without the necessity of travel.
- Demonstrate flexibility by managing multiple activities and balancing workload across projects and customers.
- Lead interactive workshops with clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Desired Experience
- Experience delivering safety engineering and assurance services to rail projects, utilising methods and tools aligned with standards such as CSM-RA and RIR.
- Background in risk management, systems engineering, safety engineering and/or interoperability.
- Ideally with a civil engineering background.
- Prior experience in major rail infrastructure projects, especially within the UK or consultancy sector.
- Experience in railway station projects, track and civils works, gauging and structures assessments.
- Exceptional organisational skills, able to manage multiple activities and prioritise workload.
- Support business development by writing proposals, developing client relationships, and engaging with industry stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience in cyber security is noted; however, it is not pertinent to this role.
