A little more about your role … Are you ready for the next step in your career? Are you eager to develop and help deliver and grow our portfolio of high-profile projects solving challenges in the water resources, environmental and infrastructure sectors? We are seeking to appoint a Fluvial Geomorphologist to support a range of projects undertaken by the Catchment Science team within our Sustainable Water Management Consulting group. Your work will be varied and challenging and is likely to include the following:

  • Fluvial geomorphology studies for a diverse project portfolio
  • River Condition Assessment for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), including data analysis, reporting and identifying enhancements to achieve net gain
  • Water Framework Directive compliance assessments
  • Supporting the Hydromorphology Service Line Lead and the wider team in delivering our technical services to both internal and external clients.
  • Undertaking and supervising the production of high-quality client and public-facing deliverables, demonstrated through excellence in communication and an ability to present the visualisation and interpretation of complex data.
  • Working collaboratively with other sectors/disciplines to deliver aspects of a wide range of challenging and engaging projects.
  • Displaying and promoting a 'safety first' attitude in line with WSP's health and safety policy and procedures.

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic, flexible self-starters who are capable of both independent work and working as part of a team. You will be a highly motivated, numerate candidate with excellent communication skills and have the ability to apply technical knowledge in analysing problems and finding solutions to new challenges.

Your Team: We have a rapidly growing hydromorphology team providing our technical expertise to a diverse client and project-base. Our work is currently expanding rapidly into the exciting BNG for Rivers and Streams area, where we are providing technical leadership in the delivery of the watercourse component of BNG. Our current portfolio of hydromorphology work includes:

  • Fluvial audits to inform catchment management options to improve river form and function
  • Erosion monitoring on active dynamic rivers
  • Sediment studies
  • Geomorphology and WFD assessment of flood alleviation schemes and major linear infrastructure projects
  • Exploring natural flood management and natural capital opportunities
  • Channel design for river diversions
  • Developing new methods for hydromorphology assessment.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate …

  • BSc degree in a relevant field.
  • A relevant postgraduate degree would also be desirable (e.g. geomorphology, environmental science, catchment management) plus relevant experience or PhD in geomorphology
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution, or ability to demonstrate active pursuit of chartership
  • A proven track record of applied Fluvial Geomorphology, including demonstrable knowledge of river types, sediment dynamics, and hydraulics
  • Excellent understanding of fluvial geomorphological processes and WFD
  • Experience of the planning system and contribution to ES water chapters and WFD assessments
  • Experience of project and budget management
