  • A little more about your role…
  • Supporting the delivery of projects primarily for offshore wind and ground investigation, but also a broad range of other geoscience projects in different market sectors: Energy, Infrastructure, Nuclear Waste, Water and Mining.
  • Advising your wider team within WSP about what geophysical techniques are appropriate for different tasks.
  • Leading coordination between our clients and geophysical subcontractors, managing survey planning and execution to ensure activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client and contractual objectives, timelines, and quality expectations.
  • Leading quality control and review of geophysical survey scoping, survey design, data acquisition, processing, and associated reporting to ensure the work is undertaken to WSP’s standards.
  • Supporting geophysical characterisation of the subsurface (up to kilometre depths, but more typically up to 100 m), including analysis and integration.
  • Supporting business development and writing proposals to help grow our portfolio of projects and technical areas.
  • Production of high-quality technical reports and delivery of presentations.
  • Communication of project deliverables to clients and advocation of our services to both external and internal stakeholders.
  • Availability to travel in the UK and internationally to deliver projects to our clients, promoting and presenting WSP in a professional manner at all times in line with our code of conduct and professional expectations associated with your role.
  • Your Team
  • You will be joining a multidisciplinary team of geoscientists in the UK, with a strong link with our global geoscience technical communities, connecting with the wider WSP Earth and Environment businesses in delivering work to our clients within all WSP regions globally.
  • You will collaborate with talented and diverse professionals for delivering a range of projects across the Energy, Infrastructure, Nuclear Waste, Water and Mining sectors.
  • Our Geosciences team helps clients optimise performance, boost profitability, and operate responsibly.

We have a comprehensive understanding of multiple industries and current issues including decarbonisation and understand that Future Ready® strategies are critical to countering these issues, capitalising on opportunities, and adding value to businesses.

  • In parallel to the consulting stream, the WSP Geosciences team also develops and markets the world leading

Frac Man ® fractured rock modelling software.

  • A choice of office locations is available for the role, with national coverage, favouring London/Reading, Bristol/Cardiff, Birmingham/Nottingham, Leeds/Manchester and Edinburgh.
  • We’d love to hear from you if you have
  • Doctorate or Masters degree (or equivalent) in Geophysics or closely related subject.
  • Demonstrable experience designing, QCing and/or coordinating the specification and acquisition of geophysical surveys.
  • Expertise in some geophysical techniques, and an awareness of others sufficient to pass judgement on what is appropriate for a given task.
  • Experience of delivering earth science related solutions in Energy, Engineering or Environmental sectors.
  • Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work, displaying initiative, workflow flexibility, independent working and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English, with the ability to both absorb and impart information.
  • Excellent technical writing ability and reporting skills.
  • In addition, one or more of the following skills will strengthen the application:
  • Experience acting as the interface with geophysical operational contractors, either on the contractor side or otherwise.
  • Operational contractor management.
  • Shallow offshore geophysical techniques e. g. side scan sonar, multibeam echosounder, sub-bottom profiler, ultra high-resolution seismic.
  • Shallow onshore geophysical techniques e. g. MASW, ERT.
  • Experience in cutting edge and innovating deeper onshore seismic solutions.
  • Understanding of processing sequences.
  • Expertise in your choice of industry standard software permitting you to undertake the role described above.
